DorobekInsider.com: Brasseux named GSA’s deputy administrator

with one comment

GSA watchers have been awaiting word on who would be GSA’s deputy administrator. Well, on Wednesday, GSA Acting Administrator Jim Williams named Barney Brasseux as the agency’s number two official.

Brasseaux is widely respected. He served as Williams deputy when he was commissioner of GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service, and had just been named the acting FAS commissioner soon after Williams moved to the corner office.

What remains unclear is whether Brasseaux will be both the deputy administrator and acting FAS commissioner, which seems to be a lot of work, or who Williams will name to the FAS post.

The official release is expected today.

Update: I’m hearing that Brasseaux will not fill both the deputy and FAS job, and that the FAS job will be filled by an outside the Beltway person. Stay tuned.

Read Brasseaux’s bio after the break.
Here is Brasseaux’s bio from GSA:

Barnaby (Barney) L. Brasseux was designated Acting Commissioner for the U.S. General Services Administration’s Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) effective August 30, 2008. In this capacity, he leads the delivery of approximately $48 billion of best-value services, products and solutions to federal customers that increase overall government effectiveness and efficiency.

Brasseux has served GSA since 1993 in a continuing progression of senior leadership positions, including Assistant Commissioner for Travel, Motor Vehicle, and Card Services as well as Assistant Commissioner for Vehicle Acquisition and Leasing Services. In addition, he previously served as Chief of Staff for GSA’s former Federal Supply Service, now reorganized as part of FAS. He was appointed Deputy Commissioner of FAS in 2007.

Brasseux began his career in 1971 with Braniff International Airlines where he spent 11 years holding several management positions in Washington, DC and Dallas, Texas. He joined the federal government in 1982 as Assistant to the Director of the White House Travel Office where he served until moving to GSA.

Mr. Brasseux is a member of the Senior Executive Service and received a Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive in 2007.
