SmartBuy to be added to the FAR
I have confirmed from multiple sources that SmartBuy — the enterprise software initiative for civilian agencies — will be included in the Federal Acquisition Regulations — the FAR.
As I understand it — and I’m still working this developing story — but as I understand it, if software is available through the SmartBuy program, agencies would have buy that software — or explain why they didn’t.
The idea behind SmartBuy and the Defense Department’s Enterprise Software Initiative, which spurred SmartBuy, is to allow the government to tap into its buying power — agencies buy a lot of… well everything — to get better prices.
I’m working to get more information from GSA and others. This is just been decided and, as we say, the story is developing.
Stay tuned.
SMARTBuy . . . it’s a little-known acronym in our acronym-laden government: Software Managed and Acquired on the Right Terms (SMART)Buy. Not bad for a short-timer …
