Earlier, we told you that 1105 Government Information Group has named a new editorial director and editor in chief of Federal Computer Week — David Rapp, formerly of Congressional Quarterly.

People have been asking me if I know him — and, to be honest, I don’t. I’ve been asking around. One former CQ person had very good things to say.

“Very talented, tons of experience with electronic and print products. I’d say they got the right guy,” this person said.

As I mentioned before, there are a lot of challenges ahead. I can’t wait to meet him.

After the break, read the e-mail that Anne Armstrong, 1105 Government Information Group’s president, sent to staff today.
As promised, the note sent to staff today announcing Rapp’s new post.

It is my pleasure to announce that David Rapp, formerly editor and senior vice president of Congressional Quarterly Inc., will be joining us in December as Editorial Director and Editor in Chief of Federal Computer Week.

A Washington journalist since 1985, David Rapp came up through the ranks of Congressional Quarterly Inc., starting as a reporter covering agriculture, eventually rising to Editor of New Media, and ultimately serving as the company’s top editorial executive from 1997 through 2006.

During that period he oversaw the creation and development of the award-winning (, the legislative tracking service. He also led the redesign and repositioning of CQ’s flagship print products, CQ Today and the CQ Weekly, and the development and launch of several e-newsletters.

He left CQ in January 2007 to start his own publishing company and in October of that year launched (, a network of special-interest travel blogs.

At GIG, he will be responsible for all editorial content in both print and online forms from all of our products.

He will formally start on Dec. 29th, but will be in one day next week, probably Tuesday, Dec. 16, to meet the staff.

Please join me in welcoming David.
