Paul Prouty

Newly appointed acting GSA Administrator Paul F. Prouty sent out his first agency-wide e-mail today. (More buzz on Prouty here.) The theme: These are exciting times.

My philosophy is simple: we will continue to satisfy our customer’s needs through business excellence, which will be delivered by employees who are dedicated, well-trained and excited to go to work each day. I have felt that way since I began working for GSA as a real estate intern 38 years ago.

The phrase is over-used, but I believe this is a defining moment for GSA. The President’s economic recovery plan and priorities include investing in federal infrastructure, greening the federal government and using Internet technology to simplify citizen access to official information and services. We are leaders in these areas. And we have much more to contribute in other areas as well. I know you are as eager as I am to continue to grow the GSA business and enhance the GSA reputation.

MEMORANDUM FOR ALL GSA EMPLOYEES

FROM: PAUL F. PROUTY
ACTING ADMINISTRATOR (A)

SUBJECT: Exciting Times

As you may know by now, I was recently asked to serve as our agency’s acting administrator. I am thrilled to have this opportunity at this time. I truly believe 2009 will be a very significant year for GSA as we help the new Administration advance a most ambitious national agenda.

I am honored to follow Jim Williams in this position. I want to thank him for providing outstanding leadership, for this agency and all of us, over these past months. Jim kept us focused on what mattered most – our business, our customers, our employees and a smooth presidential transition.

Indeed, the first federal workers met by the incoming Administration were, in many cases, GSA employees. Our dedicated transition team provided a wonderful example of what we can achieve when we develop a thoughtful plan and then work together. Thanks to their efforts, and our long history of providing superior goods, services and workspace at best value, we are well positioned to help the new Administration and American public.

Please consider this brief note the opening of a two-way dialogue. I believe in frequent communication, and look forward to meeting as many of you as I can, and working with all of you, during my time as acting administrator.

Sincerely,

Paul
